Gewandhaus Dresden, Autograph Collection

A historical landmark with impressive service from the staff to match the grandiosity of the hotel - from check in with Verena, to Jessica who upgraded me to a new room with the Marriott Bonvoy membership, to the restaurant that served a delicious and big portion of spaghetti Bolognese, to the breakfast with the server Illia who was an absolute gentleman and helpfully attentive to all brekkie needs, to Jennifer who was amazing to deal with and would reply to the Marriott app chat very quickly and full of courteous hospitality. I was very impressed with the experience and if I come back to Dresden, then this is the establishment I’d want to stay in.

The room is spacious, the bed and pillows are great amd the atmosphere of the massage bathtub is very relaxing. The breakfast is abundant and delicious. Free WiFi is provided The hotel is located close to a shopping mall and there are many delicious restaurants nearby, including Italian, Spanish, and German restaurants with pork knuckles and beer. However, during my stay in February 2023, there was construction happening directly across the hotel which can be noisy after 8am, but it is quiet at night.

I recently stayed at Gewandhaus Dresden and had a mixed experience. While the hotel is housed in a beautiful traditional building, there was a big construction project in front of the house which was not mentioned on their website. Parking is also not in front of the hotel anymore, and it takes around 20 minutes till your car is back and ready to go. Unfortunately, there is no doorman to assist with offloading and bags, so if you arrive with luggage, be prepared to handle it on your own. The Standard Rooms are on the edge of the 5-star classification and are very close to the 4-star classification in terms of quality and size. While the hotel staff believes that their hotel is on par with the Taschenberg Palais, I found the service to be lacking at the front desk. The staff tries hard but behaves above the guests, which is not acceptable. However, the restaurant is good, and the service there is superb. Most rooms come with Bathubs, but mine looked a bit worn out. Breakfast was a bit of a challenge as the crossiants were very hard, and the pastries were not fresh. The staff forgot my egg order several times, which was disappointing. Overall, my experience at Gewandhaus Dresden was mixed. While the hotel has some positives, such as the beautiful building and good restaurant, the service and quality of the rooms were not up to par. Reminder - One bottle of Water per Stay.
